Joewi Verhoeven NSC, is a Chinese-Dutch cinematographer based in Los Angeles.

Born and raised in the Netherlands, he went to Beijing when he was 18, and became the first foreigner to obtain a BFA in Cinematography at the Beijing Film Academy. Joewi also graduated with an MFA in Cinematography from the famed American Film Institute.

Joewi’s work has featured at multiple film festivals around the world such as Camerimage, San Sebastian Film Fest, Locarno Film Fest, Intl. Film Fest Rotterdam, Busan Intl. Film Fest, AFI Fest, Austin Film Fest, Urbanworld, Tallinn Black Nights, Cannes Lions, and more.

Joewi won the 2024 John Bailey ASC Student Graduate Award for his work on AFI thesis film TAHA. He is also a Cinematography Fellow of Film Independent’s 2024 Project Involve Program.

Joewi’s approach to image-making is spiritual - to infuse every frame with a soul and authenticity, while never losing sight of the story.

In his spare time he likes to play guitar for his baby boy.
